Reading, PA – A 40-year-old woman shot in the head this morning while working at the drive-through window at a fast-food restaurant in Reading has died, a hospital official said.

City police said Shawnee M. Koch of Reading, an assistant manager at McDonald’s at Ninth and Spring streets, was shot by someone in a car that pulled up to the customer service window. The shot was fired through the open window.

She was taken to Reading Hospital, officials said.

Sgt. Guy S. Lehman of the Reading police criminal investigation division said police had no description of the gunman and no suspects or motive for the shooting.

Investigators were analyzing images recorded by a surveillance camera monitoring the drive-through lane.

“It doesn’t appear there was any dialogue between the two,” Lehman said. “She was standing at the cash register, the car pulled up and ‘bam.'”

The eat-in part of the restaurant was closed at the time of the shooting. The drive-through window is open around-the-clock.

Reading patrol officers, criminal investigators and members of the VIPER violent crime detail are conducting the investigation.

They asked that anyone who was near the restaurant at the time call investigators at 610-655-6116.
