Mark Johnson was buying a meal at McDonald’s in Newtown, Birmingham, when he became embroiled in a row with a group of about a dozen black youths.

During a heated confrontation, Johnson, 23, was stabbed repeatedly with a knife.

After the stabbing, the injured Johnson is believed to have got into his Fiat Punto, possibly in an attempt to make his way to hospital, but he crashed into a wall less than a mile away.

He was found slumped behind the wheel by a passing police patrol car with his sister and her 13-year-old friend cowering in the back seat.

He was rushed to City Hospital where he managed to speak to police officers, briefly, before he died.

Detectives hunting the killers have yet to establish a motive for the killing.

Johnson’s sister and her friend are now being interviewed by specially trained officers. Detectives are also studying CCTV footage of the incident, which happened on the evening of April 2.
