Local Girl Disheartened After Recent McDonald's Visit
12.05.03

While dining at a local McDonald's restaurant, 18-year-old "Monica" discovered heartbreaking news in the "Nutritional Value of McDonald's Foods" pamphlet. Her love for McDonald's french fries came to a devastating end when she discovered animal fat in the list of ingredients that make up the delicious fries. A previously strict vegetarian, she now must re-evaluate her entire life's work to maintain a vegetarian lifestyle. This may not be murder in the traditional sense, but it appears as though McDonald's has begun to attack the very hand it feeds.

The following excerpt was taken from the McDonald's Web site:

French Fries: Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef source), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and/or partially hydrogenated corn oil and/or partially hydrogenated canola oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil and/or corn oil). TBHQ and citric acid added to help preserve freshness. Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an anti-foaming agent.
