A teenager who murdered an 18-year-old at a McDonald's drive-through was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.

Kirk Boreland, 17, of Southwark, south London, was given the sentence with a recommendation to serve at least 11 years at the Old Bailey trial.

Colin Igwe was stabbed in the chest at the Rotherhithe drive-through restaurant in east London in September 2003 by three youths.

The prosecution said the incident was linked to gang warfare.

Cousins Corey Thomas, 18, and Dwaine Thomas, 17, also of Southwark, who were found guilty last month of manslaughter, both received seven year terms.

Judge Martin Stephens said at the end of the trial: "Any involvement in violence with a knife which leads to a death is of enormous concern to the public.

"This was a murder in what I am satisfied was a revenge attack."
